Art With Mrs. Brown
Welcome to my webpage highlighting art at Sweet Apple Elementary, 2016-17. In the Fulton County School system, elementary level students experience an art curriculum consisting of one 45 minute art class per week. There is heavy emphasis on the standards and elements, and the curriculum is aligned with a pacing chart. In Fulton County, all students should experience similar processes in painting, drawing, printmaking, clay and other media within the same nine-week period. This means that our curriculum is packed as we strive to meet the Georgia Performance Standards in a limited amount of time! Come prepared to work hard and have fun along the way!
Art Room Expectations
Do we have fun in art? Yes, we do! In order to have fun, learn new art skills, and gain new knowledge, I expect students to follow five simple rules.
Enter Quietly.
Respect Others.
Work Well.
Clean Your Area and Help Your Neighbor.
Exit Quietly.
Continuing at Sweet Apple for 2016-17, is the behavior reward system: PBIS or Character Counts! This popular program was adopted to encourage students to be respectful, responsible and ready to learn. Currently, students can earn "dollars" from any SAE staff member for making great choices. PBIS currency is exchanged for rewards such as "Choose your own SPECIALS day!"
In addition, we still use the "Role Models and Reminders" system of individual accountability in art. I share the names of the students who earn the Role Model title with the class and homeroom teacher. Students are usually very proud to be the class role model for the week. Role Models set the example for the class through their words and exemplary actions!

Annual School-wide Art Show
Coming in December 2017!
Sweet Apple Art Show
Times To Be Announced
The SAE Art Show is always a wonderful display of student art with each and every student having a framed work of art on exhibit. Parents are provided the opportunity to purchase a frame with proceeds to benefit the art department.
Thank you, in advance, to Artome of Alpharetta, Ga for facilitating the framing and display.
Many thanks to our bookkeeper and Principal's Secretary, Sara Meier,
for all of her hard work behind the scenes!
Art Makes You Smart
Museum visits increase test scores, generate social responsibility and increase appreciation of the arts by students. An interesting study reported in the New York Times:
