Sweet Apple celebrated the arts on December 11, 2014 with a school wide art show! Thanks to Artome, each student's work was professionally framed. What a great night to support the arts! Also, students shared their hobbies and areas of interest in Meet the Experts. It was so cool to see the displays and hear students articulate such interesting subject matter to their peers.
During the last week of school, 4th graders were challenged to create sculptures from donated materials including this die cut cardboard. Students were super creative with only the recycled materials and Elmer's glue. What a fun way to end the school year by using the art element of shape and principles of repetition, balance, scale and more! Imagination and creativity make a wonderful combination for art exploration.
Third graders learned about the culture and traditions of Ancient Egypt through interactive websites such as Brainpop. After creating a mummy with clay and plaster gauze, students created sarcophagi containers for their mummies. Each sarcophagus displayed drawings of a mummiform, hieroglyphs, eyes of Horus, patterns, and other symbols. 5th grade wrapped up their architecture unit by designing a building using at least five out of twenty architectural details provided. Students have been producing detailed and creative renderings! SAE Art Club painted stylistic trees in a landscape using overlapping, highlights and shadows. These textured paintings in complementary colors were a big hit! Kudos to Art Club and the staff at Just for Giggles for a job well done. Fifth grade completed their relief sculptures with beautiful glazes. Through the additive process, students built up the surface of a clay slab and added a variety of creative textures. 4th graders created textured plates to raise money for Relay for Life! The plates were fun, funky and functional with food safe glazes. Many students wrote artists' statements to accompany their work. Fifth graders created relief sculptures using texture and a variety of architectural details! I can't wait to see how these creative clay pieces turn out after the 2nd firing. Some students brought photos of their own homes for inspiration! Third graders learned to mix tints to create a value scale. They also learned about silhouettes and organic shapes. In keeping with our school theme, Footprints into the Future, students created landscapes incorporating animals and animal tracks. |
