Art Club created gorgeous textured clay hearts for Valentine's Day. We will have lots of hearts to choose from at The Roswell Relay for Life event. Donate to cancer research and take home a creative artwork made with care by the members of art club!
I owe credit for this lesson to the fabulous Cassie Stephens of Nashville TN! She writes a rockin' blog! Years ago, art teachers worked in virtual isolation. Now we have the virtual world and social media to share and inspire. I love how these Monet-inspired sculptures turned out! I especially appreciate the way my students constructed their fun and excellent creatures including snails, butterflies, swan and cygnet (yes, that's a baby swan!) and too many more to include here. Please check out the dinosaur! (Gotta love that creativity!!) 5th graders were challenged to choose a food to sketch and then sculpt with clay. We reviewed the methods of building with slab, pinch and coil techniques and students were required to hand build their food of choice. After viewing the food-themed art of Oldenberg, Thiebaud, etc students discussed the influence of Pop Art. More photos to be posted soon! SAE second graders created "movies" using the ShowMe app while they reflected on learning about Monet and creating mono-prints. Students created their own narratives and spoke about the process if mono-printing, the life and art of Claude Monet and favorite parts of the final art products! What fun to trade iPads and watch each other's movies! 2nd graders discussed Impressionism and then created their own Impressionistic monoprints. First, the students designed their compositions on sandpaper. With the help of a volunteer, we ironed the images which transferred so beautifully to create the single print! Sweet Apple celebrated the arts on December 11, 2014 with a school wide art show! Thanks to Artome, each student's work was professionally framed. What a great night to support the arts! Also, students shared their hobbies and areas of interest in Meet the Experts. It was so cool to see the displays and hear students articulate such interesting subject matter to their peers. |
Drew BrownI am an art educator, and I began teaching in 1994. I hold a PhD in Art (Art Education) from UGA. I love teaching at Sweet Apple! My students inspire me with their enthusiasm, creativity, questions, and great ideas. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, yoga, and of course, art (art museums, festivals, & creating art). Archives
